It can be easy to mess up the formatting of your Home Pages if you don't know what to avoid. Sometimes when editing your Home Pages, they may end up looking something like this, with some day's tasks under the wrong tab, and possibly some missing bullet points.
Luckily, it's easy to avoid messing up your formatting if you follow a few best practices!
1. When editing your page, don't edit or move the daily headings.
You might mess up the formatting if you place the cursor right at the beginning or right at the end of a heading (for example, "Monday's tasks") and press enter, or if you change the name of the daily headings. Instead of doing those things, try adding more content to the day by placing your cursor at the end of the last bullet point, and hitting enter to create a new one! Or, if you need to copy text, try highlighting only the bullet points under the header.
2. When editing your page, don't delete the bullet points
When you delete all of the bullet points from under a day's tasks, Canvas sometimes deletes an HTML element called a div as well. The div is invisible, but it is what determines which content goes under which tab--so if you delete it, you may have two day's worth of content under one day's tab! Instead of deleting the bullet points completely to add in your content, try highlighting the filler text and typing in what you want it to say instead. If you have leftover bullet points at the end of a day's tasks, you can safely delete those!
3. When editing your page, don't copy-paste more than a day at a time
If you highlight multiple days worth of content and try to paste them in another location, this can easily mess up your tabs! Copying content also copies the HTML code behind the scenes, so you may inadvertently be copying multiple divs and tags that will change the formatting of your Home Page quite a bit. Instead, try only copying or pasting one day's worth of content at a time.
I've made a mistake; how do I fix it?
If you do end up messing up the formatting of your Home Page, don't worry, we can fix it! The easiest way to fix the formatting is by reverting to an earlier version. For more information about how to do that, check out the article below.
How do I revert to a previously saved version of a Canvas page?
This will not save any new content you've added to the tabs, but it will fix the formatting. To save your progress, try copy-pasting the content from your tabs onto a Google Doc, so you can quickly add it back after you've reverted (just make sure not to copy content from multiple days at once, as per the above instructions!).
