If your Kajeet SmartSpot KJ1 is not turning on or is not providing internet access, there are a few things you can do before reaching out to the tech support team.
Check signal strength
ORCA's Kajeet SmartSpots currently use the Verizon 4G LTE network for data connectivity. The color of the Network Signal LED on your Kajeet indicates how strong your signal is:
▇ Green: 5 bars
▇ Blue: 4 bars
▇ Cyan: 3 bars
▇ Purple: 2 bars
▇ Yellow: 1 bar
▇ Red: no internet
If the signal strength in your area is too low, your Kajeet will not be able to provide a stable Wi-Fi connection. Verizon's 4G LTE coverage map can be found here. Please note that while Verizon has coverage nationwide, ORCA's Kajeets are not designed to connect students outside of Oregon at this time.
If your Kajeet is on and the Network Signal LED is not lit up at all, try the steps below to reset your device.
Reset the device
- Plug in the device using the included USB-C charger and check to make sure the Battery
LED is blinking to show it is charging. The color of the light indicates the battery level of the device:
- Green indicates the battery is over 65% charged
- Blue indicates the battery is 35-65% charged
- Red indicates the battery is less than 35% charged
- If the battery icon is not green, continue to charge the Kajeet for at least 30 minutes to an hour, or until it is fully charged. Unplug the device.
- Using the side notch, carefully take off the back cover of the device. Use a paper clip to gently press and hold the Reset (RST) button for 5-10 seconds.
- Replace the cover, press the button on the front of the device, and check to see if the Network Signal
and Battery
LEDs are now lit up.
- It may take a few minutes for the device to reset and regain signal. If your device is still not detecting any signal after 4-5 minutes, please reach out to the tech support team and we can assist further.
- If the Network Signal
LED is on and you have sufficient signal, you should be able to find your Kajeet's Wi-Fi network in your device's Wi-Fi settings. How to connect your Chromebook to your Kajeet wireless hot spot
