Using EquatIO for the first time
To access EquatIO for the first time and get logged in, follow the steps below:
- Click the puzzle piece icon in the upper right-hand corner of chrome to view chrome extensions, and select EquatIO. Click the pin to bookmark the EquatIO for easy access.
- In the new tab that opens, select Sign in with Google.
- If nothing happens when you click "Sign in with Google," go to equatio.texthelp.com and click "Sign in with Google" on that page instead.
- Then, select your google account to log in, and click allow to enable EquatIO
- Select "I'm a student" or "I'm a teacher" to determine your account type in the new tab that opens.
- Then, EquatIO will guide you through a brief tutorial. Feel free to test it out by adding equations to the google doc!
How to open and close EquatIO
To open up EquatIO from any page in chrome, click the puzzle piece icon in the upper right-hand corner of chrome to view chrome extensions, and select EquatIO. Equatio can be accessed on any page to conveniently copy or insert equations.
To close EquatIO, access help & support, and access options such as font size, click blue the Equatio menu in the bottom left corner.
How to create equations, graphs, or formulas in EquatIO
EquatIO gives users a variety of options for writing equations. Here is a breakdown of the options available:
- Equation Editor: Manually type out an equation.
- Latex Editor: Manually type out Latex formulas to have them written as equations, or vice versa.
- Graph Editor: Write equations to have them written as graphs.
- Handwriting Recognition: Hand write equations and have them automatically formatted.
- Speech Input: Speak equations out loud to have them automatically written.
- Equatio Mobile: Use the EquatIO mobile app to take photos of equations and have them automatically converted to text in EquatIO, or handwrite equations on a touchscreen.
- EquatIO Mathspace: Create an image in EquatIO mathspace.
- Screenshot Reader: Select a portion of the page you are viewing to have it automatically converted into text in EquatIO.
- STEM Tools: Select elements from the periodic table, access a scientific calculator, or view molecular models.
You can use the hat icon in the bottom left corner for contextual tips about the tool you are using in EquatIO.
While editing your equation, you can use the grey buttons above the text box to insert text, change your text color, favorite your equation to access it later, and clear your equation.
More options are available through the icon with the three dots. In this menu, you can select additional formatting options, such as bold, italics, strikethrough, and various layouts. Additionally, you can search for and select specific symbols and existing equations.
How to add your Equation into Canvas or Google Docs
Once you have created an equation, if you have EquatIO open in Canvas or Google docs you can insert it into the text editor in Canvas, or a google doc by selecting "Insert Math" in the bottom right corner. After a moment, your equation will appear as an image in the document you are editing.
You can insert your equations into text boxes in a variety of places in Canvas, such as quiz questions, assignments, and discussions.
Additionally, you can click the file icon to the right copy the equation to your clipboard in a variety of formats and paste it on a different page, or download it as an image.
How to create graphs in EquatIO
EquatIO has graphing tools available to plot equations, and insert graphs into documents or assignments. To make a graph, click the Graph Editor icon in EquatIO.
With the graph editor open, you can enter equations on the left to have them appear on the graph.
Then, you can click and drag within the graph to change your view. Additionally, you can use the plus and minus icons to zoom in and out. Click the wrench icon to access detailed display options for the graph.
When you are finished with your graph, you can click the "Insert Graph" button to insert it into your document. Or you can click the file icon to copy it to your clipboard, just like any other EquatIO equation.
How to use EquatIO Mathspace
EquatIO mathspace allows you to create drawings or images, sort of like google slides or google drawings, but with more tools specific to mathematical and scientific equations. To open up mathspace, open EquatIO and select the mathspace icon.
Inside mathspace, you can add shapes, freehand drawings, EquatIO equations, imported images and more, and arrange them on your drawing canvas.
Once you have finished your mathspace creation, you can click the blue EquatIO button in the bottom left corner to download it as a PDF or PNG.
Alternatively, you can click the blue insert button in the upper right corner to directly import it into a document. If you return to the tab with the document that you opened mathspace from, your mathspace image will appear.
Using EquatIO's screenshot reader
You can use EquatIO's screenshot reader to convert an equation from an image, pdf, or anywhere in chrome into EquatIO. To do so, simply open EquatIO, select the screenshot reader, and click and drag a box around the equation you want to convert into EquatIO. Then, you can copy the equation and paste it into a document or Canvas assignment.
Equatio Mobile App
EquatIO also has a mobile app which can be accessed by going to the website m.equat.io on your phone or tablet. After loading, the website will prompt you to log in. Make sure to log into the same google account that you are using for EquatIO on your computer.
Once logged in, if you open EquatIO mobile on your phone, and select the mobile option from the EquatIO toolbar on your computer, you can transfer equations from your phone into chrome on your computer. The mobile app allows users to automatically convert handwritten equations from photos into text, and to handwrite equations on a phone's touchscreen.
