Description
The April 22, 2024 release of the Zoom Web App (formerly called PWA) used by ORCA students on Chromebooks requests users to allow camera and microphone permissions in the Chrome browser upon joining a meeting. If users do not allow access, then these features will be unable during the Zoom meeting and the corresponding Audio and/or Start Video icons will be crossed out (see below).
This is not a bug but is an intended feature that accompanies various enhancement for the web app. A full list of features can be found in the release notes here.
An intermittent issue that has been reported is that when a Zoom meeting is being recorded via the cloud or locally, users on the Zoom web app are unable to select their audio or video. This possible bug has been replicated only intermittently and has been reported to Zoom Support for follow-up.
Resolution
The issue requesting audio/video permissions from users can be resolved simply by allowing appropriate permissions. This is the same process completed when users access the Zoom web app for the first time. A step-by-step guide article showing this process can be found below:
Video and audio is unavailable in the Zoom web app
For users affected by Zoom meeting recordings and its impact on participant audio/video access, initial troubleshooting includes reinstalling the Zoom desktop app and to stop/start the recording again as a workaround.
