Sometimes organizing your thoughts in a video is much easier than typing them out in a reply for a discussion. Follow along below to see how to record a video directly into a discussion
Starting your reply
After opening up your discussion, click on the "Reply" button to open up the editing window.
Along the top, you'll find the Upload Media button. Click on this and choose "Upload/Record Media".
You should now see the Upload screen with the rocket ship. You can click on the Record tab in the top left to switch over to the recording settings. On this screen you can choose your microphone settings as well as if you want the camera on or off.
NOTE: If this is the first time you have recorded in Canvas, you may have a pop-up from Chrome at the top-left of the screen asking if you want to allow orca.instructure.com to use your microphone and camera to hear and see you. To continue with your recording make sure to click "Allow."

Your video should be added into your Google Drive automatically but you can check it by opening up the Files app and going to Images.
Recording your video or voice
After selecting the "Record/Upload Media" button a box will open titled "Record/Upload Media Comment". Inside of this box you can clickto choose which microphone you would like to use, and
to choose which camera to use, or to turn off the camera if you would like to only record your voice. Click "Start Recording" and a timer will count down from 3 to let you know when you are being recorded. When you are finished recording, click "Finish".
Posting your reply
After finishing your recording, name your recording or click the "Start Over" button if you don't like what you recorded. When you are finished, click "Save Media". You should be back on the discussion board now and you'll see your recording in the editing box! Go ahead and click the "Reply" button when you're ready.
