The Attendance Book link in course navigation shows the student's participation across their courses for the current and previous school week. Participation is counted each day as a two-way contact with a teacher, such as submitting a Canvas assignment, sending a Canvas conversation, attending a Zoom class through a Canvas course, or a teacher manually entering attendance for other communication outside of Canvas. Because attendance may be updated throughout a day, the best practice is to not consider a student's attendance status for the current day finalized until the following day. Additionally, participation for a given day is only counted until 4:00 when school ends. If students submit work after 4:00, they must contact their homeroom/advisory teacher to ensure correct attendance.
Regularly submitting assignments, participating in class, and contacting teachers are all marks of success at Oregon Charter Academy.
The Attendance Book in Canvas LMS tracks daily attendance using two symbols:
Green Checkmark (✔): Indicates you are present for the day.
Dash (–): Indicates an absence for the day.
Each day, your attendance status will be updated based on your participation from each course. A green checkmark means you are marked as "here," while a dash signifies an "absence." Example below:
For questions about if activity counted as participation or concerns about a previous day's attendance, please contact the teacher of the course in question.
